Georgia Saxelby has had two installations selected as finalists in The 64th Blake Prize. The Blake Prize is a nationally renowned prize concerned with art that has a religious or spiritual theme. It is Australia’s oldest art prize but, despite its prestigious history, maintains a cutting-edge reputation due to the topical and contemporary nature of its subject matter.
Two of Georgia’s recent interactive installations BREAK and Ritual Gathering (Marking Time) were selected as finalists. Both works explore moments of collective ritualised behaviour – from traditional, ceremoniously destructive acts of catharsis to the ritualism of a modern birthday celebration (an edible artwork in collaboration with the renowned patissier Adriano Zumbo).
